Three major offerings at the Rockwell Automation booth at Pack Expo Las Vegas 2023 were explained by Steve Mulder, North American OEM manager, Rockwell Automation. Emulate3D software, ArmorKinetix Servos and Plex manufacturing execution system (MES) software help packaging machine builders, system integrators and end-users, as well as those in other industries. In the video, Mulder explains some benefits of each.
Emulation, digital twin software capabilities add lifecycle value
Emulate3D software by Rockwell Automation is providing value by emulating designs as digital twins before a machine is built. It has the ability to take complete mechanical models, do a digital twin of those and emulate operations, testing how the model operates and interacts with virtual and actual hardware and software. Users can do a full test, debug and performance test before a machine is built. It’s being used for packaging and other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to show customers new machine designs and how new machines integrate with applications, in distribution centers and other applications, saving time and rework.
Smaller servos: More power in stand-alone drives or as integrated motor and drives
Part of the Rockwell Automation on-machine portfolio, ArmorKinetix Distributed Servo Drives are available as stand-alone drives and as integrated motor and drives. The new offering provides more power in a smaller package that can be field-mounted for more flexible integration for machine builders. Power output is up to 5.5kW. Integrated safety is capable of achieving SIL 3. It has IP66 certification useful for many out-of-cabinet applications.
Better performance visibility on machine fleets, locally or globally
Plex MES software from Rockwell Automation offers a data-ready package to help OEMs visualize plant-floor data from around the plant or around the world. The display shows performance data from four machines at Pack Expo Las Vegas 2023 [and one from Fabtech in Chicago, Mulder mentioned later]. The software helps OEMs more easily offer cloud-based capabilities to deliver on the promise of Industry 4.0.
Smart manufacturing brought to live starting with machine design
Rockwell Automation also provided the following information about its booth at Pack Expo International Sept. 11-13 in Las Vegas.
“See smart manufacturing brought to life as we help you simplify data access and contextualization from machine design through impactful enterprise use cases.
Experience advanced technology in real time through virtual reality (VR), emulation and demos that address real-world challenges and attainable solutions.
Connect with packaging automation innovators to learn about the latest advanced technology for a more flexible, scalable and data-driven future. Rockwell Automation interactive display also pointed attendees to partners also exhibiting and linking back to software in the booth.
